Founded by Naval Officer Admiral Kelly in 1877, Mount Kelly in Tavistock, Devon, located on the edge of Dartmoor offers an exceptional education for pupils aged 4–18. With a long history of welcoming Forces families, the school understands the unique demands of military life and provides a stable, supportive environment where every pupil can thrive. Academic ambition sits at the heart of a Mount Kelly education, with small class sizes, expert teaching and a culture that values curiosity, resilience and intellectual confidence. With ‘Thinking School’ status and a Sixth Form Business School, every pupil can find something in which to excel. The school is nationally recognised for its outstanding co-curricular provision, including elite swimming and girls’ football programmes, outdoor education and a wide range of creative and leadership opportunities, including those offered through our Naval CCF Section.
Boarding is a particular strength, with the vast majority of pupils choosing full boarding, creating a vibrant, inclusive and consistent community. Weekends are an integral part of school life, with a full programme of activities including surfing, horse riding, creative workshops such as glass fusion and seasonal visits to Christmas markets. We offer a generous military discount for serving personnel, with tailored fees designed to work alongside the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) scheme.
Boarding parents in receipt of CEA pay only 10% of the full boarding fee.
